What Elms Park can offer

Elms Park would deliver essential new business space, jobs and housing for Cheltenham, Tewkesbury and the surrounding area.  It would play a crucial role in the region’s future growth and would see more than £1bn of investment in the area over a 10-15 year period. Once complete, it is estimated that Elms Park would generated around £85m per year of additional spending into the local economy.

There is a clear vision in place for Elms Park which has been carefully designed to deliver all the elements of a thriving community in a genuine sustainable development.

The plans include:

  • Up to 4,115 new homes
  • New district centre and smaller local centre including retail and healthcare facilities
  • A Transport Hub with up to 250 Parking Spaces
  • Improvements to existing public transport from Elms Park and the surrounding area into Cheltenham, including an express bus service
  • A new three form entry primary school and an “all-through” school including primary, secondary and sixthform, catering to 4 to 18 year olds
  • New footpaths and new cycle ways linked to existing communities and routes off site
  • New Sports Hub with playing fields including an all-weather pitch and changing facilities
  • Network of parks for informal recreation, cycling, walking and community allotments

The space available would enable a range of new housing to be provided in a well planned layout creating a safe and secure new community that links to existing settlements. New housing would be provided for all the main groups for whom a need has been identified. These homes would be built to high standards of energy efficiency making them cheaper to run.

At Elms Park a modern 10 hectare Business Park would be developed, providing the premises that existing regional employers require and attracting investment from elsewhere. The Business Park would offer a range of space from business start-ups to regional headquarters. It would also include a super-fast broadband network to benefit business, schools and residents.

Being located close to the M5 and on the same side of the town as the railway station, North West Cheltenham is well served by transport links. These would be further improved through the provision of a Transport Hub that would be linked to the town centre, major employment sites and education facilities, via a modern rapid bus service. This would help to reduce traffic and congestion in the town centre.

Strategic scale developments, such as Elms Park, can enable environmentally sustainable solutions to be incorporated, including the provision of energy, the use and treatment of water and drainage management to avoid flooding. New schools would be built, along with playing fields, parks, allotments and other community facilities, all linked by a network of footpaths and cycleways that would also open up access to the countryside.
