• Elms Park and revised Joint Core Strategy Plan Thursday, April 24, 2014

After much debate and consultation the revised Joint Core Strategy (JCS) plan has now been approved by all the three councils, and can move forward to the next stage. This new plan sees an overall reduction in the numbers of homes within the proposed plan, including the removal of some projects all together.

The strategic importance of Elms Park was demonstrated in this revised version of the JCS, in which there were only minor amendments to the original proposal. With this, we now have confirmation on the site boundary, numbers and mix of housing and the inclusion of the new business park and employment land.

Despite the importance of this site, it is critical that Elms Park is designed to a standard which takes into consideration the existing communities and the local environment. This is being achieved through the use of more allotment space, green playing fields, public orchards and the integration of the existing public right of way footpaths, thus ensuring Elms Park will be a green district of Cheltenham.

In addition, Elms Park is working to incorporate public transport into the new site and extend it to the neighbouring communities in order to create a fully integrated and environmentally friendly addition to Cheltenham.
